Everything You Might Be Wondering..

About The Bedford Birth & Wellbeing Co.

What is a private postpartum midwife?

A private postpartum midwife provides personalised, in-home support during the fourth trimester. My role is to care for you as you recover from birth, support you through the transition into motherhood and provide expert, evidence-based guidance tailored to you and your family.

What makes The Bedford Birth & Wellbeing Co. different?

I believe birth is one day. Motherhood is everything that comes afterwards.

Whilst the NHS provides essential maternity care, my role is different. I provide dedicated, unhurried support in the comfort of your own home, focusing not only on your baby’s wellbeing, but on yours too.

Every visit is personalised, allowing time to answer questions, build confidence and support your recovery without feeling rushed.

Do you replace my NHS midwife or health visitor?

No.

My services are designed to complement your NHS care, not replace it. You’ll continue to receive all routine NHS maternity and health visiting care whilst benefiting from additional continuity, reassurance and personalised support.

Why would I invest in private postpartum support?

Many families spend months preparing for birth.

Far fewer prepare for everything that comes afterwards.

Private postpartum support gives you the time, continuity and reassurance that simply isn’t always possible within standard appointments. It’s an investment in your recovery, your confidence and your transition into motherhood.

Recovery Sessions

What happens during a Recovery Session?

No two sessions are ever the same because no two mothers are the same.

Together we may discuss:

• Your physical recovery

• Infant feeding

• Newborn care

• Sleep and settling

• Emotional wellbeing

• Birth reflection

• Practical support

• Preparing for the weeks ahead

Most importantly, you’ll have dedicated time to ask every question that’s been on your mind.

How long is a Recovery Session?

Approximately two hours, allowing plenty of time for personalised support without feeling rushed.

When should I book?

Many families book during pregnancy to ensure support is ready once baby arrives.

However, support can be booked at any stage throughout the fourth trimester and beyond.

Is one session enough?

Many mothers find a single Recovery Session incredibly valuable.

Others prefer the reassurance and continuity of one of my Postpartum Collections, which provide ongoing support over several weeks.

Postpartum Collections

What is included in a Postpartum Collection?

No two mothers are the same, so no two Postpartum Collections are either.

Your support is personalised around your individual recovery, your family and your goals. Depending on the collection you choose, this may include dedicated home visits, ongoing midwife support and, where appropriate, access to a carefully curated network of trusted specialists to create a truly wraparound postpartum experience.

Think of it as having your own postpartum concierge - designed entirely around you. I organise and coordinate everything for you in the comfort of your own home, connecting you with trusted specialists so you don’t have to spend hours researching who to trust.

Full details of each Postpartum Collection can be found on the Collections page.

What is ongoing midwife support?

Questions don’t only arise during appointments.

That’s why every Postpartum Collection includes non-urgent WhatsApp support between visits.

Rather than relying on endless Google searches, you’ll have access to personalised guidance from someone who already knows your story, your birth and your family.

Is WhatsApp support available 24/7?

No.

This is a non-emergency service designed for non-urgent questions between visits.

You’ll receive thoughtful responses during my working days, with clear response expectations outlined before your support begins.

It never replaces emergency services, your GP, NHS maternity services or your health visitor.

Full Terms & Conditions can be found on my website.

Why are your Collections different from booking individual appointments?

Because postpartum isn’t something that happens in one appointment.

Recovery changes from week to week, and so do your questions.

My Collections are designed to provide continuity, consistency and personalised support throughout your transition into motherhood - not just on the days I’m sitting in your living room.

It’s the difference between receiving a service and feeling genuinely cared for.

My Trusted Network

How do you choose the specialists within your Postpartum Collections?

Every specialist I recommend has been personally selected by me.

I don’t simply create a directory of local businesses. I build trusted relationships with local professionals whose values, clinical standards and approach to care align with The Bedford Birth & Wellbeing Co.

Each specialist holds the appropriate qualifications, professional registrations (where applicable), insurance and enhanced DBS certification where relevant to their role.

Most importantly, they share my belief that mothers deserve compassionate, evidence-based, personalised care.

When an expert forms part of our postpartum collections, it’s because I would feel completely confident recommending them to my own family.

Why have you partnered with other specialists?

No one professional can be an expert in everything.

As your midwife, my role is to coordinate your postpartum care and ensure you have access to the right support at the right time.

By bringing together trusted experts across different specialties, your care feels seamless, personalised and centred entirely around you.

Infant Feeding

Can you support breastfeeding?

Yes.

As an experienced midwife I can support many common feeding questions and challenges within my professional scope.

Where specialist feeding support is required, I’m fortunate to work alongside trusted local IBCLCs and infant feeding specialists and can be incorporated into your postpartum collection.

What if I choose to formula feed?

You are equally welcome.

My role is to support you in meeting your own feeding goals safely and confidently.

Who is this for?

Is this only for first time mums?

Not at all.

Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, every postpartum journey is unique.

Many second and third-time mothers tell me they appreciate support even more whilst balancing recovery alongside older children.

Is this suitable after a caesarean birth?

Absolutely.

Support is tailored to your individual recovery, regardless of how your baby was born.

What if I’ve had a difficult birth?

Many women find it incredibly valuable to have space to reflect on their birth experience with someone who understands both the clinical and emotional aspects of what happened.

You’ll never be rushed, and we’ll always move at your pace.

I don’t have family nearby. Is this for me?

Absolutely.

Many of the families I support don’t have relatives close by and value having a trusted, familiar professional alongside them during those early weeks.

I’m quite independent. Would I still benefit?

Many of the women I support are incredibly capable.

Seeking support isn’t about needing someone to take over.

It’s about having someone in your corner whilst you navigate one of life’s biggest transitions.

Practical Information

Where do you travel?

I provide home visits throughout Bedfordshire and surrounding counties, travel to London can also be accommodated.

If you’re unsure whether you’re within my travel area, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Can my partner be involved?

Absolutely.

Supporting the whole family is an important part of what I do, and partners are always welcome during our visits.

Can grandparents or friends gift a Recovery Session or Collection?

Yes.

Many families choose to gift postpartum support instead of another baby item.

Gift vouchers are available and make a thoughtful baby shower or new baby gift.

Do I need to tidy my house before you arrive?

Absolutely not.

This is your recovery, not a house inspection.

Come exactly as you are.

What should I wear?

Whatever feels comfortable.

Pyjamas, leggings, a dressing gown..

This is your safe space.

Will you judge the choices I make as a parent?

Absolutely not.

Whether you’re breastfeeding, formula feeding or combination feeding. Whether your birth went exactly to plan or completely differently than you’d hoped. Whether this is your first baby or your fourth.

My role is never to tell you how motherhood should look.

It’s to provide evidence-based information, compassionate support and a safe space where you feel listened to, respected and empowered to make the decisions that are right for you and your family.

Booking

How do I book?

Simply book a complimentary Discovery Call through my website (or WhatsApp me for availability if preferable).

We’ll discuss your pregnancy, your hopes for postpartum and which level of support feels right for your family.

Your care will then be secured once deposit or full payment has been made.

Why do you offer a complimentary Discovery Call?

Choosing someone to support you after birth is personal.

The Discovery Call gives us an opportunity to get to know one another, discuss your hopes for postpartum and explore which level of support feels right for your family.

There’s no pressure and absolutely no obligation to book.

I believe you should feel completely confident in whoever you invite into your home during such an important chapter.

What if I don’t know which Collection is right for me?

That’s completely normal.

Most families don’t know exactly what support they’ll need before their baby arrives.

That’s why we’ll discuss your plans, your circumstances and what matters most to you during your Discovery Call.

Together, we’ll choose the collection that feels like the best fit for your family.

Do I have to decide straight away?

Not at all.

The Discovery Call is simply an opportunity to see whether we’re the right fit for one another.

There’s absolutely no obligation to book.

Can I book before my baby is born?

Yes, and I actually encourage it.

Planning your postpartum support before birth means one less thing to think about once your baby arrives.

What happens if my baby arrives early or late?

That’s completely normal.

We’ll simply adjust your support to work around your baby’s arrival.

Professional Information

Are you still practising as an NHS midwife?

Yes.

Alongside running The Bedford Birth & Wellbeing Co, I continue to practise as an NHS midwife.

This allows me to maintain my clinical skills whilst providing independent postpartum support outside of my NHS role.

Are your services insured?

Yes.

I hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance and practise in accordance with the NMC Code.

The Bedford Birth & Wellbeing Co Promise

Every recommendation has been carefully considered.

Every specialist has been personally selected.

Every collection has been thoughtfully designed.

Every mother will be cared for with the same compassion, professionalism and respect I would want for my own family.
